As of January 17, the USPS increased its Priority Mail shipping rates by an average of 9.5%. While this increase doesn’t impact letters, First Class flats and cards, it does impact anyone who appreciated the flat rate offered by the Postal Service to ship packages, especially small business, online retailers and catalogers.
For many small retailers, when compared to other priority shipping methods, the USPS flat-rate priority mail shipping was the best option. It will still be less expensive than the big guys, but the increase will cause business owners to re-evaluate their free shipping offers and promotions as well as their pricing structures.
